The Bruce Moore Interview

for those about to cook pure metalWhat is one thing that no-one would usually know about you?

I guess people might be surprised to know that even though I come off fairly confident I am always concerned how my projects will be accepted by the public. I know art is meant to be a creative expression no matter what form. I believe in my books and my show but there is always this nagging little voice in the back of my mind telling me that my work is no good or will not be accepted.

I fight daily to stay one step ahead of that voice and keep on working, writing and creating things that I enjoy and that hopefully others will as well. I guess the bottom line is I am more concerned about what people think of my work than I should be.

What did the best review you ever had say about you and your work?

There’s something in there for everyone. Definitely worth getting, had lovely evenings read with a pot of tea, and am looking forward to trying some more of the recipes.

How did you choose a title for your book?

Choosing a title for the book was a bit difficult. I wanted it to be a play on words of a well known hard rock/metal tune and I wracked my brain for weeks until one day the light went on and “For Those About To Cook,” became the title.

Have you ever wished that you could be or do anything else instead of writing, and if so what?

A musician or a chef but since neither of those materialised I decided to combine both of my passions and write about them.

Have you ever written naked?

I have never written naked, not sure I would be comfortable doing so. There is never much privacy in my house and I am positive my kids would not want to walk in on dad typing in the buff.

Who would you like to play you in a film of your life?

I think Johnny Depp. He always seems to play the eccentric slightly off canter characters which is exactly how my wife and good friends refer to me. Plus the women really seem to dig him.

What is the single biggest challenge you faced when writing your book?

There were so many challenges when writing these books. Keeping up with the bands who were submitting material was tough. A lot of times they were on the road for extended periods and it was difficult to get a hold of them to obtain all the necessary inf and clarifications.. Just finding time to set aside to write was and is difficult as well. Things are always hectic in my world so setting aside a significant block of time is often difficult.

What has been the best experience you have ever had in your life?

That is a tough one. Aside from all of the family milestones like my wedding and the birth of my sons I would have to say being invited to attend the first ever 70000 Tons of Metal Cruise back in 2011. It was basically a chartered Cruise ship on which they put 40 of the biggest metal bands from around the world. Four days of non-stop performances while cruising through the Gulf of Mexico. It was totally amazing!

Where do you find your inspiration?

I love to eat, I love to cook and I love music, especially heavy music. I think there is an endless wealth of inspiration right there.

Tea, Coffee, Water, Juice, Wine or Beer … which do you prefer when writing?

I think I am a two fisted drinker; a dark beer in one hand and a black coffee in the other.
