Have you ever got to a point and thought ‘enough is enough, something has to change’? If you have then you have arrived at the castle gates; what you then need to decide is whether you are going to Storm the Castle, issue the challenge and be the change you want to see, or whether you’re going to pass by, unnoticed in the crowd.
This week, I’m in conversation with my close friend and first-time author Caroline Brewer. We first met back in 2009 when we both attended business network and later Toastmasters International meeting. Caroline’s book is called More Than You Think and it came out, first in Kindle format and later in paperback during lockdown and I was incredibly honoured when she asked me to write the foreword.
There’s a term in the IT world and it’s WYSIWYG, it’s been used since the 1990’s and refers to the design of online systems and it means that what developers see when they’re designing something is the same as what the user will see on the finished screen. And it’s a perfect analogy for my second ‘truth’.
I realise the title of this post is likely to raise a few eyebrows at the very least, and perhaps it will even cause some to say ‘illness, an illusion? I think not!’ in some indignation so I’d ask you to hold off on a reaction while I put the statement into context.
I’ve been waking early over the last few weeks, a combination of being too hot in bed and a mind full of thoughts has kept me wakeful, excited I admit, but wakeful nevertheless. This morning it seemed the right thing to do to just get up instead of fretting and fussing and hoping I’ll go back to sleep.
Back when I was child I genuinely believed that when my mother kissed my knee to make it better, she did actually do that. And as I grew older although that belief faded away in the light of the obvious ‘fact’ of the medical model, it never truly disappeared. Time and again I would reflect on what it meant to be healthy and when my own health challenges began in my mid-teens, some part of me always knew that my mother’s kiss held meaning.
Most of us probably have an understanding of what the word ‘happy’ means and don’t believe we need a dictionary to tell us. After all, it’s something to do with well-being, being positive, joy and gratitude isn’t it? Or is it?
In an earlier post (If this then that – why life is the way it is!) I began to explain how I’d come to find out about the three principles and the journey of discovery I’ve had so far. On a recent Liberate your Thinking retreat in Weymouth with very lovely Caroline Brewer, Liz Scott and Stu Newberry I found myself talking about the quantum nature of thought and Liz challenged me to find a way of explaining what I meant as it was pretty garbled at the time.
I titled this piece, If this then that, after an automation service that businesses and individuals can use to reduce the manual processing of ‘data’ and other actions. You decide what you want to automate, for example I might decide that I need to update a database when someone fills in a form on my website. Normally, I’d get the information by email and then copy and paste it into my database, but ITTT automates the task, leaving me with precious time to do something more interesting instead.
